the animation in this movie makes me appreciate good animation; nevertheless, it’s really inspiring to see how far good storytelling can take you. i felt like i could draw every frame. i felt like i have the technical ability to make this movie right now if i wanted to. the delta between me and ryuya suzuki is good writing and storytelling.
what’s also interesting is that even if this movie had a high budget and the most talented animators, i think it would maybe be only marginally better than what it is right now.
i think this also helps me verbalize my issue with the sf film bro. with his fancy cameras and his fancy microphones and the backwards fitted kangol hat with the fancy outfit. his film may look perfect. crisp. color-graded. scored. but the final product, what gives this all meaning, is either completely empty or underwhelming. i think there are some things you can grind for and seize and achieve through time and effort, like the technical ability of filming and directing a movie, and to that i tip my hat, but what suzuki has may just be a gift from god.
^^this paragraph is very poorly thought out and is probably incoherent, and probably stems from my insecurities and personal grudges, so it’s not worth paying very close attention to. i’m just being a hater. i hope the sf film bro can follow his dreams and that i can follow mine.
tldr: my personal takeaway is that i’m probably better off being less conscientious when i’m creating. it can be messy and sloppy and janky and duct taped, build the plane while you’re flying it type of thing, and it’s okay. you can’t just eat icing, you need cake, so focus on making cake.
